Job summary

The National Cemetery Administration seeks a Cemetery Caretaker to perform landscaping, groundskeeping, and grave maintenance duties using hand and power tools, tractors, and other equipment.

The position (PD136120) is at WG-06 and requires physical strength, the ability to work outdoors in all weather, and compliance with safety rules. Overtime, weekends and holidays may be required to meet cemetery needs.

Qualifications

• Experience in landscaping/groundskeeping or related trades using hand and power tools.
• Ability to operate cemetery maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
• Physical stamina to perform heavy outdoor work and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Perform grounds maintenance tasks: mowing, trimming, mulching, pruning, and debris removal.
• Dig graves and prepare sites, align headstones, and assist in placing caskets.
• Load/unload materials and support equipment handling, including lifting and moving grave planks.
• Maintain service and administrative areas; clean headstones and cemetery grounds as required.
• Operate small tractors and pneumatic equipment and use hand tools for daily maintenance.
