Job summary

Ames Construction, Inc. in the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro is seeking a Cement Finisher to join our heavy civil team.

You will set up forms, pour and finish concrete, and ensure quality workmanship on active project sites. Work involves reading blueprints, using power tools, and collaborating with crew members. Must pass pre-employment drug test and hold a valid driver's license; travel to multiple job sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of OSHA standards.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver's License with reliable transportation.
• Proven experience as a Cement Finisher or similar role.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and plans.
• Strong knowledge of concrete mixing, pouring, and finishing techniques.
• Familiarity with power tools and concrete finishing machinery.
• Physical stamina and strength for heavy materials and varied weather.
• Attention to detail and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up and align forms for concrete according to blueprints or plans.
• Mix, pour, and spread concrete in specified proportions.
• Finish concrete using trowels, floats, and screeds.
• Monitor weather effects on curing and adjust as needed.
• Apply sealing and hardening components to curing surfaces.
• Create textured or decorative surfaces by imprinting patterns in fresh concrete.
• Cut expansion joints into concrete using saws and cutting tools.
• Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
• Supervise and train junior workers on proper techniques.
• Maintain a clean job site and pick up tools and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Monitor the effects of weather conditions on concrete curing and make necessary adjustments.
• Apply sealing and hardening components to cure surfaces.
• Create textured or decorative surfaces by imprinting patterns in fresh concrete.
• Cut expansion joints into concrete using saws and cutting tools.
• Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
• Supervise and train junior workers on proper techniques and tool usage.
• Maintains a clean job site; picks up tools and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

• Projects will be located in the Minneapolis and St. Paul Metro and surrounding area. Subsequent projects will be nationally based.
• Work is primarily performed on active construction job sites, including highways, roadways, and heavy civil infrastructure projects.
• Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and dust.
• Position requires walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting in a construction environment.
• May require extended work hours, early mornings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays to meet project schedules.
• Frequent interaction with heavy equipment, moving machinery, traffic, and construction hazards; strict adherence to safety protocols is required.
• Travel between job sites may be required depending on project location.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all job sites.
