Senior Cellular Connectivity Test Engineer
Mackin Talent is seeking an experienced engineer to lead cellular connectivity bring-up, performance testing, and debugging across new hardware and software platforms. This hands‑on role requires strong experience with Qualcomm chipsets, cellular call boxes, and LTE/5G device validation.
What You'll Do
- Lead cellular lab bring-up, from initial network attach and data calls through stable, production‑ready performance.
- Test throughput, latency, transmit power, mobility/handover, and power consumption across LTE, 5G NR (SA/NSA), and legacy technologies as applicable.
- Configure modem settings, including bands, NV/EFS items, carrier/PLMN settings, APN/PDN setup, and features such as CA, EN-DC, VoLTE/VoNR, and PSM/eDRX.
- Configure and operate base station emulators, call boxes, and test networks to reproduce real‑world and challenging network conditions.
- Analyze modem, protocol, and network logs to troubleshoot registration, signaling, connectivity, throughput, and RF performance issues.
- Partner with chipset vendors and RF, antenna, hardware, firmware, and software teams to resolve issues.
- Develop test plans, acceptance criteria, and automation scripts for characterization and regression testing.
- Document performance baselines, findings, and recommendations for engineering and program teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 2-5 years of direct, hands‑on cellular experience.
- Hands‑on experience with Qualcomm chipsets and device‑level modem configuration.
- Demonstrated experience operating cellular call boxes or base station emulators, such as Keysight UXM, Anritsu MT8000, or R&S CMX/CMW.
- Strong understanding of LTE/5G protocol stacks, including PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC, NAS, and core network procedures.
- Knowledge of scheduling, link adaptation, power control, and RF metrics such as RSRP, RSRQ, SINR, and CQI.
- Proficiency with modem logging and analysis tools such as QXDM, QCAT, PCAT, Wireshark, and vendor‑specific tools.
- Proven experience bringing up new cellular hardware or software and resolving complex connectivity issues.
- Familiarity with spectrum analyzers, signal generators, RF shield boxes, channel emulators, and power analyzers.
- Experience with RedCap and low‑power optimization.
- Python/Bash scripting skills for test automation and log parsing.
Preferred Experience
- Extensive Qualcomm modem log analysis and troubleshooting.
- Cellular device validation experience at a major telecom company or device manufacturer.
- Development of repeatable characterization and regression automation.
