Job summary

The California State University, Sacramento, seeks an Instructional Support Technician II to provide independent instructional support for undergraduate and graduate cell and molecular biology courses. You will prepare supplies, cultures, and reagents, and coordinate safety, waste disposal, and documentation.

You will troubleshoot equipment (biosafety cabinets, incubators, microscopes, thermocyclers) and lead student assistants.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the principles of performing support services for cell and molecular biology courses.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and follow written protocols.
• Knowledge of materials and supplies used in cell and molecular biology labs.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety including regulations for laboratory safety.
• Ability to handle, store, and dispose of chemicals and biohazardous waste.
• Experience with aseptic techniques to culture both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and freeze/recover cell lines.
• Experience with preparing DNA, RNA, proteins, enzymes, gels, and other reagents.
• Experience with buffers, PCR reagents, sterile culture media and other reagents.
• Knowledge of ordering lab materials for specific labs.
• Ability to provide lead direction to student workers and coordinate assistants.
• Troubleshoot and maintain equipment used in cellular/molecular biology labs.
• Experience using MS Word, Excel, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent instructional support for cell and molecular biology courses and related labs.
• Coordinate safety like chemical inventory and proper waste disposal; maintain safety documentation.
• Troubleshoot and maintain lab equipment (centrifuges, microscopes, incubators, thermocyclers).
• Lead and coordinate undergraduate/graduate student assistants in materials prep.
• Prepare and maintain reagents, buffers, and culture media for experiments.
