The Opportunity:

Factorial Energy is looking for a Cell Design Engineer – All Solid-State Battery to join its Product Development team in Billerica, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will engage in lithium rechargeable battery design-oriented tasks and will focus on the optimization of overall battery performance by controlling multiple aspects of the battery. This position requires a thorough understanding of how the battery works, how they are assembled, and how the energy density can be affected by various parameters. Applicants must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  1. Spend at least 50% of your time inside Factorial's labs, working directly with our development teams.
  2. Design the cell by the multiple performance aspects (cycle life, energy density, power density, etc.).
  3. Review and provide feedback on the designed cell parameters to fine-tune them up to the customer’s requirements.
  4. Engage in cell failure root cause analysis if required.
  5. Interface and work closely not only with the rest of the cell design team but also with internal R&D team, process team, and production team to solve/mitigate the problems from the cell level.
  6. Engage in responding to customer requests by coordinating with the project managers.
  7. Maintain compliance with all company protocols related to confidentiality, assignment of inventions, and other policies or duties as identified and assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. More than 5 years of industrial experience with all-solid-state cell design, including testing, data, and failure mechanism analysis.
  2. Experience with pouch cell or prismatic cell is required.
  3. Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project). Knowledge of programming (i.e., Python) is a plus.
  5. Statistical analysis and machine learning related skills are preferred.
  6. Strong problem-solving skills and able to come up with creative solutions to challenges.
  7. Willingness to execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced start-up environment.
