Job summary

WiCell, a leading non-profit stem cell services institute affiliated with UW–Madison, seeks a full-time Cell Culture Specialist to join the Stem Cell Banking team and advance stem cell research in a collaborative environment.

You will maintain human pluripotent stem cell cultures, prepare samples for distribution worldwide, support UW–Madison researchers through QC testing, perform cell assays and banking projects, and assist with lab maintenance and supply orders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of laboratory experience.
  • Sterile culture techniques and handling of human pluripotent stem cells or mammalian cells.
  • Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cell cultures including human pluripotent stem cell lines.
  • Prepare cell samples for distribution and shipping globally.
  • Support UW–Madison researchers through quality control testing and distribution of materials and reagents.
  • Perform cell assays and banking projects.
  • Assist with laboratory maintenance, record-keeping and supply orders.
  • Work is performed in a typical laboratory/office environment; weekend and holiday work required.

WiCell, a leading non-profit stem cell services institute and supporting organization of UW-Madison, seeks a full-time Cell Culture Specialist to join our collaborative team and help uphold the reputation of quality and excellence for which we are known. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the advancement of stem cell research within a collaborative and supportive environment.

The Role

The Cell Culture Specialist will join our Stem Cell Banking team and support stem cell research objectives by:

  • Maintaining cell cultures including human pluripotent stem cell lines
  • Preparing cell samples for distribution and shipping globally
  • Supporting UW–Madison researchers through quality control testing and distribution of materials and reagents
  • Performing cell assays and banking projects
  • Assisting with laboratory maintenance, record-keeping and supply orders
  • Work is normally performed in a typical laboratory/office environment
  • Weekend and holiday work required. Schedule is determined based on a team rotation. Expect to be scheduled on weekends once every 3-4 weeks on average
  • Onsite at 504 S. Rosa Road in Research Park on the west side of Madison
What You Bring to WiCell
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in a laboratory setting, sterile culture techniques, culturing human pluripotent stem cells or mammalian cells
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in biological science or a related scientific program or equivalent experience
  • Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to work with others in a laboratory setting, a high level of confidentiality, accuracy, reliability, and responsibility are all essential for success
  • Other: Ability to lift and move up to 50-pound shipping containers. A valid driver’s license to make local deliveries is required. A motor vehicle report will be requested at post-offer, pre-employment as well as annually
