Job summary

HNTB is seeking a Field Inspector to oversee daily inspection efforts on complex infrastructure projects across multiple Florida locations, including Tampa. You will prepare reports, assist in pay estimates, and mentor junior inspectors while ensuring conformance with plans and specifications.

Strong communication and field testing skills are essential for success. The role emphasizes coordinating with contractors, reviewing project data, and supporting project administration under supervision

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• 9 years of construction related experience.
• All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Experience in field surveying, construction layout, and inspections.

This opportunity entails being responsible for daily inspection efforts on multiple complex, large, and /or diverse projects. Prepares daily and weekly reports on work accomplished by contractor and reviews periodical pay estimates with contractor for accuracy. Prepares sketches and assembles data for Field Engineer to utilize when making changes to the project. May participate in the mentoring, development, and evaluation of staff inspectors.

What You'll Do:

• Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents and plans. Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.
• Advises Contractor superintendent of necessary actions to ensure conformance with plan, specs, and contract. Reviews and resolves quantity disputes with contractor.
• Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform sophisticated and complicated mathematical calculations, constructability and biddability reviews, and measurements of completed work to date.
• Reviews Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contactor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.
• Performs on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches.
• May lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 9 years of construction related experience.

• Responsible for coordinating and managing the lower-level inspectors.
• Responsible for performing work under the general supervision of the Project Administrator (when applicable).
