We are seeking a CEI Inspector II to provide Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) services for transportation projects located in the state of Georgia. This intermediate‑level technical role supports higher‑level inspectors and engineers in areas such as construction inspection, surveying, scheduling, roadway design, traffic signal equipment, geometrics, material sampling, inspection, and testing.
The position involves significant decision‑making and use of judgment and may include providing work direction to others.
Responsibilities
- May perform project engineering duties in lieu of the Project Engineer on smaller construction projects.
- Perform independent complex inspections of roadways and structure construction processes and materials to ensure compliance with the construction contract.
- Perform moderately complex inspections or supervise other inspectors conducting routine and standardized inspections.
- Inspect asphalt and concrete for acceptable materials and mix; pavement for proper spreading, rolling, depth, alignment and compaction; roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications; structural materials and members; placement of culverts; structural operations such as foundation excavation; placement of piling, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete and backfill; and traffic control and erosion control devices.
- May also perform a more complex variety of calculations and computations.
- Perform contract documentation duties, which include field measurements of pay items and other department‑required documentation.
- Participate in concept meetings, field plan reviews (preliminary and/or final), CPM schedule reviews, project close‑out, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of progressive transportation technician experience as an employee or consultant for a State Highway Agency, or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
- Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
- Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions, including geometry and trigonometry.
- Drafting skill and skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers.
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
- Ability to take notes and prepare or review reports.
- Ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods.
- Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law.
- Proficiency with computers (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, internet, etc.).
Required Certifications
- GDOT WECS.
- GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification.
- Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 1 (General Provisions, Auxiliary Items, Basic Highway Math, Basic Highway Plan Reading).
- Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 2 (Pavements, Bases, Subbases, Minor Drainage Structures, Construction Erosion Control).
Expected Salary: $52,000–$73,000 per year ($25–$35 per hour).
