Job summary

RK&K's Construction Engineering Inspection and Construction Management Division is hiring a CEI Inspector to join our team in the Knoxville/Tri-Cities TN area. As a CEI Inspector with RK&K you will perform routine inspections on projects including highway, bridge, and design/design-build projects, with opportunities for growth in construction management and office engineering careers.

Essential functions include inspection, testing, and monitoring to ensure compliance with contract documents,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 3+ years of progressive experience in roadway and structures construction.
• Knowledge of civil engineering concepts, construction methods, materials and equipment.
• Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts; interpret construction plans, provisions, standards and specifications.
• Ability to train, coordinate, and supervise entry level inspection technicians in the field.
• Travel to job sites is expected; clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide construction management support, including inspection, testing, and monitoring of construction to ensure compliance with contract documents.
• Fully engage in solving intermediate problems to provide evaluation and sound solutions.
• Monitor the activities of other inspectors.
• Communicate effectively across different platforms with project management, clients, stakeholders, and contractors.
• Interface with clients, state and federal agencies, and other engineering disciplines on construction projects.
• Recordkeeping, materials testing, and reporting as required.
• Must possess high integrity and ethics in all aspects of dealing with clients, subconsultants, and peers.

Physical Demands

This role requires the ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and climb ladders or stairs. Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20–30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may include exposure to construction-related hazards.
