Job summary

RS&H is hiring an experienced transportation technician in Denver, CO to perform field surveying, construction layout, and inspections on an active site. You will mentor junior inspectors while ensuring contractor work meets contract documents and safety standards.

The role requires a high school diploma or civil engineering degree, seven years' experience, materials testing certifications, and a valid driver’s license. Outdoor work and strong problem-solving skills are essential.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate on highways and construction sites.
  • Comfort working outside in variable weather; strong organization and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Observe contractor work on active construction sites to assess progress and quality.
  • Perform field surveying and construction layout; check engineering calculations.
  • Inspect work and conduct field tests on materials and completed work.
  • Coordinate and mentor junior inspectors; maintain detailed records of daily operations.
  • Review contract documents for compliance with project requirements.

Job description

The Opportunity

RS&H is currently seeking an experienced transportation technician to join our team in Denver, CO. This position will work outside on an active construction site. As part of the construction management team, you\'ll serve an integral role in the firm by observing the work of contractors to determine the progress and quality of work on construction projects. This position performs highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, including making and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests and is responsible for coordinating and managing junior inspectors; reviews and interprets contract documents to determine if the contractor\'s work is in compliance; maintains detailed accurate records of the contractor\'s daily operations and of significant events that affect the work; and performs sampling and field testing of component materials and completed work. This position may also direct, guide, and mentor junior inspectors.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Must
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent and seven years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Have experience in construction inspection, including exposure to bridge and/or roadway construction inspection, or a degree in civil engineering.
  • Have materials sampling/testing certifications.
  • Have a valid driver\'s license, be insurable, and be able to safely operate a vehicle on the highway and on construction sites.
  • Have a passion for working outside and a tolerance for exposure to the elements.
  • Possess strong organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Have the ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with others.

  • OSHA 10 Hour

The anticipated salary range for this position is $67,000-$104,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, internal equity, geographic location, and other job‑related factors.
