Job summary

Western Tech in El Paso, TX is seeking a CDL Instructor to deliver classroom and hands-on training for students pursuing commercial driving credentials. You will ensure safety, prepare lessons, and supervise lab activities while aligning with program goals.

The role requires 4+ years of relevant experience, a valid CDL, and the ability to work flexible hours. Teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred, with emphasis on clear communication and student success in a busy shop environment.

Qualifications

• Must possess a current and active Commercial Driver License (CDL) and insurance.
• Four years of experience in the subject field within the last 10 years.
• Teaching experience at the post-secondary level (preferred).
• Must be able to work flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide for the safety of students and co-workers; ensure a safe learning environment.
• Class preparation and alignment with lesson plans; ensure materials and equipment are ready.
• Implement instructional training techniques and foster student participation.
• Organize, plan, and prepare students’ lab/shop projects and provide hands-on training.
• Identify at-risk students and coordinate with support staff to retain them.
• Pursue and complete professional CEUs; stay current with industry changes.
• Organize and assess student competencies for each phase.
• Take attendance daily and document accurately in the instructor portal.
• Document student issues clearly; maintain records on behavior and performance.
• Maintain an orderly classroom and manage student behavior effectively.
• Listen to students and co-workers to resolve conflicts; communicate clearly.
• Follow school policies and procedures and enforce rules.
• Keep curriculum, standards, and tests current with industry needs.
• Use the competency tracking system and pass folders to future instructors.
• Assist in organizing and conducting field trips; supervise cleanup.
• Ensure timely grading within three workdays; complete other duties as assigned.
