Position Title: Nursing Director – Part-time

Reports to: Quality Improvement and Compliance Manager

This job description is effective June 6, 2025, and will remain effective until revised by the President and Chief Executive Officer or Chief Operating Officer.

Summary Description

This part-time exempt position is responsible for overseeing the operations of the medical components of all Children in Need of Services/Families in Need of Services (CINS/FINS) shelters statewide in accordance with Rule 63M-2.090, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.). The Registered Nurse (RN) must hold a clear and active Florida license and bring clinical leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and consistent care delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following items are included in the essential duties and responsibilities for this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed:

  • Develop and provide new nurse training to ensure that all newly hired nurses within the Florida Network understand their role regarding the healthcare admission screening process, medication management and distribution process, the medical alert process, and the provision of episodic and emergency care in the shelter environment.
  • Provide or arrange for medication training to non-licensed staff, in accordance with Chapter 64B9-14, F.A.C., for facilities that have a nursing vacancy.
  • Review incidents of medication error CCC reports as they occur and conduct technical assistance calls with shelter teams comprised of direct care, nursing and leadership staff to identify behaviors and processes that contributed to the error and develop effective strategies to prevent future errors.
  • Identify trends that contribute to medication errors across programs and provide medication error prevention training to all licensed and non-licensed staff through webinars, virtual calls, and/or in-person trainings.
  • Compile monthly reports of medication errors for distribution to agency leadership.
  • Provide technical assistance to nurses and program staff for compliance with the Department of Juvenile Justice contract and 63M-2.090, F.A.C.
  • Assist with policy updates, as applicable.
  • Assist with creating forms and processes that are consistent among all subcontracted facilities.
  • Act as a liaison between the Department’s Office of Prevention Services, Office of Health Services, Contract Management, and all subcontracted facilities.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Must hold a clear and active Florida Registered Nurse license in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes.
  • Preferred: A minimum of one year of Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) Prevention knowledge and experience.
  • Must be a resident of the State of Florida

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Travel is required throughout the State of Florida. This employee may be called upon to work irregular hours due to responsibilities that require out-of-town travel or for other reasons. Occasional lifting, up to 20 pounds of force, may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This is a remote position.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience. This position will be part-time, (approximately 20 hours per week) insurance and other benefits may be available. An independent contract arrangement may also be considered.
