CDOC Journeyman Plumber Supervisor CSLTS I (Denver)
This position is open only to Colorado state residents.

Description of Job:
This Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor I (CSLTS I) is a Journeyman Plumber Supervisor for the Denver Correctional Complex. Primary responsibilities include ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; supervising an inmate work crew and ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant completion of all preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance of plumbing systems for the facility.

Safety and Security: This position maintains safety and security of facility and work sites; through clear and accurate communication, trains and guides inmates in the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicals; enforces security procedures by conducting work site searches; monitors workplace environment and inmate behavior, paying close attention to changes, inappropriate activity or potential problems; initiates verbal reprimands when warranted and, if necessary, physically controls inmates with the proper application of restraints or "use of force" techniques; monitors, supervises and escorts inmates according to facility policy and limits inmate access to restricted areas; performs inmate counts and transportation; responds to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to agency policy and writes and submits required reporting. Through conscientious observation, clear communications and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments and the Code of Penal Discipline, this position promotes a safe and secure environment.

Supervision: Provides supervisory or work lead duties for assigned inmate workers; promotes a high level of performance by setting the work standard according to agency mission, vision and values. Trains and instructs staff and inmates in the appropriate use of all relevant tools, equipment and procedures to ensure efficient, safe and effective completion of assigned tasks; stresses safe construction practices and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for self, staff and inmates; exemplifies a professional workforce that embodies honesty, integrity and ethical behavior.

Inmate Supervision: Participates in the interview and hiring process to ensure appropriate placement on work crews and training needs are met; trains inmate workers in all aspects of plumbing operations (i.e., correct methods, tool use and care, reading blueprints, planning a project); monitors project progress, inspects work and ensures timely completion of tasks. Performs inmate evaluations, tracks and calculates inmate hours and pay, creates schedules and assigns tasks, and resolves informal grievances according to agency policy; reduces inmate idleness and creates real life work opportunities to prepare inmates for community reentry.

Operations: Ensures the safe, efficient, compliant and cost-effective completion of assigned projects by performing "hands on" instructional work alongside inmate crew. Responsible for facility plumbing maintenance, including design, installation, daily maintenance, remodel and repair of all facility plumbing. Plans projects, estimates supplies, equipment needs and costs, and makes recommendations to improve efficiency and appearance; completes job layout based on design and function of project, prioritizes tasks, assigns duties, orders supplies and ensures timely implementation while coordinating logistical support with other trades and shops in order to use resources efficiently; monitors progress and quality of work; completes required documentation such as work orders and incident reports.

This position is subject to the following:
Facility callbacks, working additional hours/shifts and weekends in order to maintain safe and secure operations.
Working outside during inclement weather.
Working in close proximity to industrial equipment and in high, tight and confined spaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

License: Active Journeyman or Master Plumber license issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Please attach a copy of your license to this application.

Experience: Four (4) years of employment experience performing preventive, predictive and corrective plumbing maintenance in a residential and/or commercial setting.

Substitutions: Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or degree through an accredited, non-correspondence vocational or trade school that resulted in demonstrated competencies equivalent to those learned through the required experience may substitute for experience on a year for year basis. Please attach transcripts if you are using this substitution. Transcripts must include the name of the institution, your student ID number, a listing of the course curriculum, the degree earned and the date awarded.
