Job summary

FedEx Ground in Chicago is seeking a CDL Switcher to move trailers in the yard and assist with loading and unloading packages. You will operate yard equipment, perform safety inspections, and coordinate trailer movements with management.

No education required. Six months of package handler or CDL operator experience preferred. A valid Class A CDL and DOT file are required. This position offers a Sunrise schedule and is part-time.

Qualifications

• No education required.
• No experience required; six months of experience as a package handler or switching/CDL operator preferred.
• CDL Class A in interstate commerce is required.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow safety instructions.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Performs trailer switches defined as hooking and moving a parked trailer from the yard to a load/unload door or from a door to the yard.
• Communicates with management to coordinate trailer movements in the yard.
• Documents trailer moves using the Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Performs pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Understands and demonstrates safe yard switching processes and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
