Job summary

FedEx in Chicago is seeking a Yard Switcher to move and position trailers within the yard and at doors. You may also load/unload and sort packages by hand, with safety and efficiency as priorities.

Essential duties include trailer switches, coordinating movements, documenting actions, and performing safety inspections. A valid CDL-A and DOT file are required, with 6 months of related experience preferred and a PT Day Schedule Sun–Thu.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a DOT file.
• CDL Class A to operate in interstate commerce is required.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• Proficient with basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.

Responsibilities

• Perform trailer switches by hooking and moving trailers between yard, doors and yard areas.
• Coordinate trailer movements with management or central control.
• Document trailer moves using the Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Follow yard switching safety processes and perform other duties as assigned.
