Paid Training

CDL School is available for individuals looking to start a new career with Gray Line Tennessee in our School Bus and RTA Division.

Classes start every other week, scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

We prepare candidates to obtain their CDL Class B, with Air Brake, Passenger, and School Bus endorsements. All candidates must obtain their permit by passing the written tests for General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Passenger, and School Bus endorsements prior to attending CDL School.

After passing all written tests, you will receive a Commercial Driver Permit, enabling you to operate a motorcoach during training and prepare for your CDL Skills Test.

Gray Line Tennessee CDL School Eligibility & Requirements

  • Complete Gray Line TN application process, including MVR, background check, and drug screen
  • Obtain your permit with endorsements prior to Orientation
  • Be hired as a full-time driver and remain so for at least 1 year
  • Be compensated $20 per hour during training
  • Prepare for class each day by completing assigned reading and homework
  • Gray Line TN covers the cost of your third-party Skills Test; retesting costs are your responsibility if needed
  • If you do not pass after two attempts, you will be removed from the program
  • Failure to remain employed as a full-time driver for at least 1 year will require repayment of training costs up to $2000

CDL Driver School Qualifications

Applicants Must:

  • Obtain a CDL Permit before the start date
  • Hold a valid TN Driver's License
  • Be at least 25 years old
  • Understand, speak, and read English
  • Have no more than one moving violation in the past three years
  • Have no DWI or DUI convictions
  • Pass a substance abuse and alcohol screening
  • Pass state and federal criminal background checks
  • Disclose any relevant record within the last 3 years
