Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling in Medora, Indiana is seeking a Roll Off Driver to service customers and haul waste or recycling materials. You will operate trucks safely, hook/unhook containers, and communicate with dispatch to ensure excellent service.

The role requires a valid Class B CDL, ability to read maps, and good English communication. Expect outdoor work, variable hours, and routine inspections; safety and customer service are priorities.

Roll Off Drivers are responsible for servicing customers with the collection and hauling of waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. Roll Off Drivers will deliver, remove, and haul roll-off containers to/from customers sites.

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Operate truck in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
  • Climb to hook/unhook containers, move items to smooth the load and secure tarps
  • Communicate with dispatch on additional work orders to ensure quality customer service
  • Maintain and update route & driver log sheets
  • Conduct pre-trip/post trip inspections and complete logs
  • Visually inspect roll off containers and ensure proper load securement to prevent loss of trash and debris
  • Clean up areas located around compactor when servicing customers as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned truck
  • Professionally interact with internal and external customers to provide excellent customer service
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

  • Ability to read and understand a map
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

  • 1-2 years CDL truck driving experience preferred
  • General knowledge of truck mechanics
  • Licensed to operate both manual and automatic transmission preferred

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

  • Occasionally lifting/carrying a max of 50 lbs; rarely up to 100 lbs
  • Frequently pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs; occasionally up to 100 lbs
  • Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Frequently climbing and/or balancing
  • Frequently sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

  • Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
  • Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire
  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
  • Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to workflexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
