Job summary

Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking a Principal Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker-CDL in Gaithersburg, MD. This full-time role maintains park grounds and facilities, operates CDL vehicles and heavy equipment, and leads a crew.

CDL is required within 12 months; carpentry/painting skills are a plus. The position offers steady work, training, and a pathway to develop equipment and maintenance skills with a dedicated team in Montgomery Parks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience totaling four (4) years.
• Valid driver’s license in accordance with State and Commission rules; unencumbered.
• Pass Commission medical examination.
• Within 12 months of hire, obtain CDL and certifications including: Maryland pesticide and fertilizer applicator certifications, and National Playground Safety Institute.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks and equipment; maintain park grounds and athletic facilities.
• Repair playgrounds and park structures; perform trail and tree maintenance.
• Provide direction and basic guidance on work procedures and safety to crew members; respond to emergencies.
• Schedules may include days, nights, and weekends.
