Job summary

Brookings County in Brookings, SD seeks an Equipment Operator for the Highway Department. A Class A CDL is required; the position is full-time with full benefits. Starting wage is $23.90/hour. Reports to the Highway Superintendent.

The role involves operating and maintaining medium to heavy equipment, performing snow removal, and assisting with road repair, culverts, and bridges while prioritizing safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Experience operating medium to heavy equipment for highway maintenance.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance procedures and safety standards.
• Ability to perform manual labor and withstand variable weather.
• Must understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Valid South Dakota Class A CDL is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain dump trucks, tractors, rollers, loaders and similar equipment.
• Operate snowplows and other snow removal equipment as needed.
• Provide routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Assist with culvert, bridge work and loading materials.
• Install signs, manage debris and perform custodial duties when required.
