Job summary

The City of Wilmington is seeking an Equipment Operator to support the Department of Public Works. You will drive standard trucks and operate a range of maintenance equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure materials are loaded for each assignment.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid CDL Class B (tank endorsement preferred), the ability to lift up to 100 pounds, and strong communication skills. Overtime and outdoor work in all weather are common responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of traffic laws related to automotive equipment.
• Knowledge of the layout of the City of Wilmington.
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
• Ability to operate automotive and related equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Operate a range of standard trucks and equipment safely.
• Perform preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles.
• Load and transport construction and/or maintenance materials.
• Transport personnel to various job sites.
• Overtime may be required based on weather or events.
• Forklift operation may be required; maintain safe driving records.
