The Residential Driver will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables on curbside and/or backdoor routes and transport to post-collection facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate residential/recycling collection trucks, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic systems to collect waste on specified routes.
- Load waste and recyclables into the vehicle.
- Operate equipment to compact trash.
- Perform safety inspections and complete reports daily.
- Communicate vehicle issues promptly.
- Maintain route quality standards.
- Follow safety standards and regulations.
- Keep the vehicle clean.
- Identify and tag prohibited waste items.
- Manage helpers if applicable.
- Comply with all laws, policies, and safety procedures.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Report accidents or incidents immediately.
- Maintain professional demeanor and appearance.
- Keep accurate service records.
- Manage inventory of containers and parts.
- Work with supervisor to improve routing.
- May require overtime and attendance at meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Commercial Driver's License required.
- At least 1 year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.
- Ability to meet safety-sensitive criteria.
- Ability to operate trucks and equipment safely.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of truck components and maintenance.
- Ability to maneuver truck in tight spaces.
- Ability to recognize unacceptable waste.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand documents and maps.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Flexibility and continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Coordination of limbs while sitting or standing.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, smell.
- Visual requirements for driving and maneuvering.
- Lift/move up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Sitting for up to 75% of the time.
- Work in loud conditions and outdoor environments.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to loud noise, weather, mechanical parts, chemicals, fumes, particles.
- Work outdoors and route away from branch location.
- Occasional work in high places and traffic conditions.
