Pay: $26-32/hour
The Residential Driver will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables on curbside and/or backdoor routes and transport them to post-collection facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a residential/recycling collection, side-load and/or rear-load truck, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic systems to collect solid waste and/or recyclables on designated routes.
- Load solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables into the rear or side of the waste collection vehicle.
- Operate equipment on the truck to compact trash into the vehicle.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, complete route sheets, reports, and documentation as required.
- Report mechanical issues immediately to the mechanic and supervisor.
- Maintain route quality standards as set by management.
- Follow all safety standards, equipment checks, and safety precautions. Comply with all relevant laws and company policies.
- Keep the vehicle clean and report any prohibited waste items.
- Manage assigned Helper(s) if applicable.
- Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment at all times.
- Report accidents or incidents immediately.
- Maintain a professional demeanor, manner, and appearance.
- Keep accurate records of services performed.
- Manage inventory of containers, carts, and spare parts; recommend purchases as needed.
- Collaborate with supervisors to improve routing efficiency.
- Work overtime if required.
- Attend safety and branch meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Minimum one year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.
- Meet safety-sensitive criteria per company standards.
- Demonstrate safe driving and equipment operation skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance.
- Ability to operate and maneuver trucks safely.
- Recognize unacceptable waste types.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and understand documents and maps.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Flexibility and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work in loud outdoor environments and various weather conditions.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and balance.
- Visual requirements include close, distance, peripheral, color, and depth perception.
- Regularly lift/move up to 10-25 pounds; occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to loud noise, weather extremes, moving parts, chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Work primarily outdoors, often in traffic and high precarious places.
