Job description

  • The CDL driver will deliver goods and materials regionally or throughout the country using a tractor trailer. In this role, the CDL driver must safely operate and maneuver large vehicles to complete assignments which may last up to several days at a time.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand how to and demonstrate ability to safely operate assigned vehicle at all times.
  • Deliver equipment and tooling from location to location via heavy commercial vehicle.
  • Perform safety checks of brakes, steering column, lights and mirrors prior to each leg of journey to ensure road readiness.
  • Follow and maintain loading protocols, using chains and binders to secure cargo and re-checking their stability throughout trips.
  • Inspect trailers before and after loading, paying attention to status of air lines and jack positions and adjusting them as necessary.
  • Visit weigh stations before and after packing to ensure that loads meet state safety regulations, making alterations to loads when required by law.
  • Contribute to company data by honestly recording times of delivery and hours worked.
  • Assist in unloading cargo when delivery sites are understaffed, maintaining product quality throughout conveyance.
  • Adhere to traffic safety regulations at all times, exercise caution in treacherous circumstances and report unsafe vehicle or road conditions to supervisors and highway authorities.
  • Use GPS to stay informed of route information, and communicate with supervisors and colleagues using CB radio and cab computer.
  • Maintain a valid CDL driver’s license, DOT medical card, and applicable endorsements.
  • Maintain detailed driving and delivery logs.
  • Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

License/Certification:

  • Valid Class A CDL driver’s license with tanker and hazmat endorsements.
  • Valid DOT medical/physical card with long form.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of off-road commercial driving experience.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to adhere to federal, state and company safety policies and guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

  • The individual must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
  • Ability to sit for 30 minutes to 6 hours while driving.
  • Ability to stand for 30 minutes-1 hour while unloading vehicle.
  • Ability to walk to and from the vehicle (50 to 300 feet at one time).
  • Walking, stepping, climbing or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, and normally involves physically getting into and out of equipment through the use of vertical mounted ladders up to and including 10’ or more in height.
  • Visually seeing driving operations well (either naturally or with corrective lenses).
  • Standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing and sitting.
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
  • Working at elevated heights.
  • Lifting 75 lb. objects occasionally.
  • Carrying 75 lb. objects occasionally.
  • Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure to sometimes adverse weather conditions.
  • Remaining calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident.
  • Exposure to working outdoors in all-weather conditions.
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week including weekend assignments and holidays as required.

Travel:

  • Ability to travel up to 100% required.
