Job summary

Arrow Building Center, Lampert Lumber and Lyman Lumber Companies, divisions of US LBM Holdings, LLC, are hiring a CDL Driver I to transport materials safely to job sites and locations. You will inspect trucks, manage logs, and assist with loading and unloading while supporting customer needs on the move.

Required are a Class A or B CDL license, DOT knowledge, and the ability to perform pre/post-trip checks.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience with lumber and building materials preferred.
  • CDL experience with flat beds and/or tractor trailers desired.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Class A or B commercial vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Deliver to active construction sites and completed locations; possible interstate travel.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip DOT inspections and maintain logs per regulations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and professional conduct on site.
  • Organize and secure loads; verify orders before departure and on delivery.
  • Follow DOT regulations and permit conditions, and maintain vehicle safety.
  • Deliver and unload materials; ensure customer satisfaction at delivery point.
  • Record merchandise returns and assist in unloading for credit with proper documentation.
  • Operate a truck-mounted forklift as needed for loading/unloading.
  • Keep truck clean and organized; assist with warehouse stocking and inventory.

A Brief Overview

The CDL Driver I is responsible for the safe, efficient transportation of materials to various job sites and other locations. This role requires maintaining a Class A or B Driver’s license, inspecting and maintaining trucks, reporting shortages and claims to supervisors, and assisting in loading and storing of materials. Drivers must perform pre- and post-trip inspections, manage logs, and adhere to hours-of-service requirements.

Pay Rate

$26.00 - $29.00 per hour

What you will do
  • Operate Class A or B commercial vehicles in a safe, compliant, and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for deliveries to both active construction sites and completed build locations; city-based deliveries and inter-state travel may be required.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip DOT inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with federal regulations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by maintaining a professional demeanor, addressing client needs, representing the company positively during all interactions, and relaying messages received from customers while on job sites.
  • Organize and secure loads to ensure safe transport and verify orders for accuracy before departure and upon delivery.
  • Adhere to all regulations and safety guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and comply with all regulations and conditions outlined in applicable permits.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate DOT-compliant logs of driving hours, on-duty time, and rest periods in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Deliver and unload materials accurately and safely, ensuring customer satisfaction at the point of delivery.
  • Record all merchandise returned by truck and assist in unloading materials returned for credit, ensuring proper documentation and handling.
  • Safely and efficiently operate a truck-mounted forklift to load, unload, and transport materials at job sites.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the truck, ensuring it is well-kept and ready for operation.
  • Assist with stocking and organizing inventory in the warehouse and production areas.

Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience Qualifications
  • Basic CDL experience with flat beds and/or tractor trailers required.
  • 1-2 years CDL experience preferred.
  • Experience transporting and handling lumber and building materials required.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to do basic math, read orders, write instructions and complete forms.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to deal constructively with conflict and recognize potential problems.
  • Maintain current operator’s license and meet company driver qualification requirements.
  • Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques.
  • Proficiency with or ability to learn current technologies (e.g., Smartphone, GPS and other necessary business applications).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, dispatchers, and other drivers to ensure smooth operations and timely deliveries.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal DOT regulations, logbook requirements, and HOS compliance.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Class A CDL License or Class B CDL License required.
