Job summary

APAC-Kansas, Inc., Shears Construction, a CRH Company, is a heavy highway contractor delivering paving, utility, dirt-grading and concrete work across Kansas. We seek a CDL driver who adheres to safety standards, participates in daily inspections, and supports the team in diverse job sites while driving in varied weather conditions.

The role involves loading/unloading, following supervisory directions, maintaining logs, and complying with OSHA/DOT regulations.

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid CDL, Class A; hazmat and tanker endorsements a plus.
  • Pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen and a criminal background check.
  • Maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Responsibilities

  • Operate and deliver materials safely and efficiently.
  • Load and unload materials; follow dispatch instructions.
  • Maintain vehicle logs and perform daily vehicle inspections.
  • Back up and work with a team in a safety-conscious environment.
  • Travel as required and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

About Opportunity

As a truck driver, you’ll be a vital part of our team, collaborating with co-workers and managers to keep operations running smoothly. You’ll be trusted to uphold our high standards for safety and professionalism while delivering exceptional service.

Work collaboratively within a team environment and engage with both co-workers and management.

Follow instructions from the Foreperson or Supervisor to complete daily tasks.

Champion safety by strictly adhering to all company policies, OSHA/MSHA regulations, and DOT guidelines.

Perform thorough daily inspections of your vehicle and maintain necessary documentation for compliance.

Follow dispatch instructions and obey all applicable laws and regulations.

Keep meticulous logs of vehicle mileage and monitor gauges during operation.

Load and unload materials safely and efficiently, with care for product quality.

Maintain your truck in clean, top-notch condition, performing minor service and maintenance as needed.

Foster a safe work environment for yourself and your colleagues, using clear communication, including hand signals and constant eye contact when backing.

Support and mentor less experienced team members to help build a stronger, more capable workforce.

Adapt and assist by performing general labor and other duties as assigned.

Hold a current driver’s license that meets state requirements (CDL, Class A; hazmat and tanker endorsements a plus).

Maintain a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets company standards.

Be at least 18 years old to comply with workplace safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications

High School diploma or GED.

Previous experience in the construction field is a strong asset.

  • Hold a current CDL, Class A License.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Frequently required to climb, balance, and perform tasks involving physical agility.
  • Regularly sit, climb, and use hand signals or equipment; occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, or reach above shoulder height.
  • Lift and move objects weighing up to 25-50 lbs as needed.
  • Work primarily outdoors, often in extreme weather and environmental conditions.
  • Comfortable working in all weather conditions; exposed to jobsite hazards such as moving machinery, high places, airborne particles, and loud environments.
  • Must have specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, to operate equipment safely.
  • Reasonable accommodations provided as necessary to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
