Job summary

Austin Powder is seeking a dedicated driver for on-site and customer-location operations in Wisconsin. You will safely operate vehicles, perform field labor, and manage bulk explosive products and related equipment.

Responsibilities include mechanical handling, hazmat transport, inspections, and accurate record-keeping. The role requires flexibility for early hours and outdoor work in all weather, with emphasis on safety and precision.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age as required by the DOT.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate vehicles and equipment in a safe, professional manner.
  • Driving time is 20 to 30 percent; remainder is performing physical labor using hand tools, shovels, and other equipment outdoors with exposure to the elements.
  • Coordinate and handle mechanical mechanisms to deliver emulsion.
  • Pick up and transport goods, inventory, hazardous materials, and other cargo to intended destinations.
  • Keep driving and delivery logs, confirm load contents match manifest documents, and track/report working hours.
  • Load/unload and transport materials and supplies to and from destinations, including overhead bin loading requiring fall protection.
  • Operate mobile manufacturing units (MMUs) onsite at customer locations to create bulk products for blasting.
  • Operate Austin Powder bulk equipment to create consistent product quality and enhance customer experience.
  • Complete pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance requirements to Location Manager.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements and company policies for the delivery of bulk and packaged explosives.
  • Operate mobile manufacturing equipment with precise control of chemicals into the product.
  • Hands-on daily operation and maintenance of the Austin Powder location and customer sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Valid Class-A CDL license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to read and interpret gauges and regulate gauges to correct standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including product usage and safety checks.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to fix issues in the field.
  • Hazmat, tanker, and air brake endorsements are highly preferred.
  • Must meet the requirements of all State and Federal explosive laws and qualify as an ATF explosive possessor.
  • Unrestricted for operating manual transmissions is a plus.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours (starting very early).
  • High attention to detail to maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, product bulletins, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to identify products by sight.
  • Reliable transportation.
Education and Experience
  • Must be 21 years of age as required by the DOT.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Reporting Relationships
  • Reports to the Location Manager for daily operations; on-site at a customer location, takes direction from Blaster-In-Charge.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • This position involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, lifting, carrying, and performing a variety of hands-on physical tasks using material handling equipment and hand tools. Approximately 50 lbs. may be required.
