Job summary

160 Driving Academy, the nation's leading CDL training network, seeks an experienced Class A Instructor Trainer. You will teach students from pre-trip to CDL exam, in the yard and on the road, based at a designated yard with a Lead Instructor.

You’ll handle light yard upkeep, support coverage at regional yards, and ensure safety, curriculum adherence, and timely records. This role promotes home-based work and steady schedules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class A CDL with 24+ months of verifiable tractor-trailer experience.
• State license must match applying location.
• Manual transmission experience; able to teach.
• MVR clean; pass DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening.
• Background check clearance.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills.
• Residence in applying state or relocation secured.
• 90-day probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Teach Class A driving skills in yards and on road.
• Guide students through pre-trip inspections and maneuvers.
• Prepare students to pass CDL on first attempt.
• Track attendance and progress; provide support.
• Maintain training records and documentation.
• Report incidents to lead/corporate in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with instructors to deliver a consistent student experience.
• Keep yard and building clean and presentable.
• Cover for other instructors during emergencies.
• Assist with truck transfers to repair operations.
• Demonstrate patience and professionalism.
• Able to climb in/out of a tractor and sustain extended periods.
