Job description

Description

Monday through Friday - 2nd Shift, 2:00pm start time - Overtime required as needed.

Must have a valid CDL A and be able to drive a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) to transport a variety of pallet and non-palletized goods. May be required to load and unload truck occasionally, fork truck experience a plus.

  • Perform daily pre and post trip vehicle inspections to ensure that the vehicle’s mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order. During pre-trip inspection driver is responsible to review last driver vehicle inspection report and be satisfied that the vehicle is in safe operating condition.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, damage, traffic violations, and mileage (when applicable) on Post Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR).
  • Maintain logs of working hours following applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous materials.
  • Communicate with Dispatch personnel to ensure all dispatched picks and deliveries are completed.
  • Inspect loads before leaving terminal and at each stop to ensure that cargo is secure. Check condition of trailer to ensure no damage has occurred. Remove any debris from trailer.
  • Maintain good housekeeping habits of your truck and trailers; remove debris/garbage daily, wash windows when necessary.
  • Load and unload trucks (or help others) operating forklift trucks and pallet jacks or other equipment as necessary. Ensure that cargo is secure for transport with proper equipment; such as, cargo/load bars, blocks, binders, etc.
  • At time of pick inventory and inspect goods to verify quantity and condition, verify information on bill of lading is correct.
  • Prior to leaving terminal review manifest to ensure all delivery paperwork is accounted for, checking for special routing or delivery instructions.
  • At time of delivery obtain verify goods delivered against paperwork, obtain customer signature and collect payment of services when required.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Operate equipment, such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones, to exchange necessary information with dispatch, supervisors, maintenance or other drivers.
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices to ensure all pick-ups/deliveries are made and minimize fuel consumption.
  • Couple/Uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting/disconnecting air and electrical lines and manipulating fifth wheel locks. Crank trailer landing gear up and down to safely secure vehicles.

Requirements

  • Class A Commercial Drivers' License.
  • CDL Hazardous Materials Endorsement. Preferred, will be required to get within 3 months of hire.
  • CDL Tanker Endorsement. Preferred, will be required to get within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks within required time frames.
  • Ability to take care of the customer’s needs while following company procedures.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees and customers.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional conduct conforming to a set of values and accepted standards.
  • Ability to work at a sustained pace and produce quality work.
  • Ability to be internally inspired to perform a task to the best of one’s ability using his/her own drive or initiative.
  • High School Graduate or GED Equivalent.
  • Must be at least 23 years old, and have a minimum of two years experience operating tractor/trailer equipment.
  • No convictions for a “serious or disqualifying traffic violation” within the last three years. No more than four moving violations in the past 36 months, and no more than two moving violations in the previous 12 months.
  • Must be able to pass drug screen, DOT physical and Functional Employment Physical. Must be willing to participate in Random Drug Program.
