Job summary

160 Driving Academy is seeking a CDL Class A Instructor Trainer to teach and coach students from pre-trip inspection through to the CDL exam, in yards and on-road settings. You’ll work with a team of instructors and Lead Instructor across designated yards, ensuring safety, accuracy, and a strong student experience.

As a hands-on role, you’ll maintain training records, participate in schedule rotations, and support regional coverage when needed.

Qualifications

• High school graduation certificate or equivalent.
• Valid Class A CDL with 24 months of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience.
• The state of license must match the applying location.
• Manual transmission experience and ability to teach.
• MVR free of violations.
• DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening clearance.
• Background check clearance.

Responsibilities

• Teach Class A driving skills in outdoor yards using manual and automatic transmissions.
• Guide students through pre-trip inspections, yard maneuvers, and on-road driving.
• Prepare students to pass CDL testing standards on the first attempt.
• Track attendance and progress; provide additional support as needed.
• Maintain training records, evaluations and documentation.
• Report incidents to lead and corporate promptly.
• Collaborate with instructors to deliver a consistent curriculum.
• Help keep the yard and building clean and presentable.
• Cover for other instructors at nearby regional yards when needed.
• Adhere to safety, compliance and curriculum during probation.
