External SA Recycling in Macon, Georgia seeks a full-time CDL Class A driver responsible for loading and unloading scrap metal trucks. Candidates must have a valid CDL Class A license, pass a DOT physical and background check, and be able to work independently in a scrap metal recycling yard.

Job description

Job Duties

• Load and unload trucks hauling scrap metal.
• Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
• Perform DOT daily operation and safety inspection.
• Communicate with office and customers to determine commodities to load.
• Work independently when driving scrap metal.
• Assist customers to satisfy their needs and resolve problems that arise.
• Collaborate with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.
• Perform normal daily operation maintenance including refueling, lubrication, cooling system cleaning, and housekeeping.
• Clean up the work area at the end of shift.
• Keep work areas neat and orderly.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
• Have roll off and open‑top trailer experience.
• Dispose of various waste materials appropriately.
• Inspect to ensure cleanup is completed.
• Maintain effective housekeeping in the workplace area to support safety and hygiene for all team members.

Qualifications

• Must wear seat belts at all times and be visible on camera at all times.
• Must pass a medical DOT physical and DOT drug test.
• Must pass a background check.
• Preferred – high school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
• 3 years as a valid CDL Class A driver required and registered with the Clearing House; no restrictions; 10‑speed manual required.
• Ability to communicate with others effectively; understand directions (written or oral) and use basic math skills as the job demands.

Physical Requirements

Work Environment: Scrap metal recycling and shredder yard.

• Equipment & Tools: Trucks up to 18‑wheelers, hydraulic truck tilt and lift operations, box containers, mechanic tools, roll‑off open‑top equipment.
• Physical Demand Level: Light to moderate; remains steady when the machine rocks in all directions; climbs fixed ladders.
• Work Capacity: Truck driver workload.
• Sensory Demands: Hearing, vision, touch, smell and taste.
• Hand Movements: Repetitive motions, gripping.
