Job summary

Ymca of Greater Springfield, Inc is seeking a Transport Driver to operate school buses/van for youth education services under the Transportation Director. Responsibilities include daily pre/post trip checks, safety enforcement, and positive interaction with youth and staff.

The role requires CDL B with S endorsement, First Aid/CPR, and a clean driving record; 7D may be accepted while pursuing CDL. On-site work with safety training provided.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• CDL B license with an S endorsement (must remain in good standing). 7D license accepted if working towards CDL.
• First Aid, AED, CPR certified.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes.
• Follow regulations around vehicle operations and transport of students, members, or participants.
• Complete pre- and post-trip checks and log fuel, mileage, and maintenance.
• Promote safety and keep first aid supplies stocked.
• Ensure bus rules are announced and followed.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
• Communicate regularly with supervisor.
• Attend safety and operations trainings.
• Serve as a mandated reporter in transportation operations.
• Ensure passenger safety with assigned bus monitor(s).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under the direction of the Transportation Director, drive a school bus or van for the youth education services; maintain and manage School Bus, Van and Monitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Safely and effectively operate a school bus on assigned school or trip-related routes; drive for Y-AIM evenings.
• Follow and help enforce all city, state, and federal regulations around vehicle operations and the transport of students, members, or participants.
• Completes thorough pre-and-post trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus each day.
• Promotes safety by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
• Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
• Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
• Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
• Attend all training and in-services around safety, vehicle operations, and staffing.
• Serve as a mandated reporter within our transportation operations.
• Ensure the safety of youth on the bus in conjunction with the bus monitor(s) assigned to their vehicles.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School or equivalent.
• CDL B license with an "S" Endorsement (must remain in good standing and meet all training, physical, and federal requirements as a condition of employment); 7D license accepted if working towards CDL.
• First Aid, AED, CPR certified.
• A satisfactory driving record and ability to demonstrate defensive driving.
