Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Transportation Director, drive a school bus or van for the youth education services; maintain and manage School Bus, Van and Monitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Safely and effectively operate a school bus on assigned school or trip‑related routes; drive for Y‑AIM evenings.
• Follow and help enforce all city, state, and federal regulations around vehicle operations and the transport of students, members, or participants.
• Complete thorough pre‑and‑post trip checks each day and record all information. Record gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Clean out bus each day.
• Promote safety by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
• Ensure that bus rules are announced and followed.
• Develop friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
• Communicate regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
• Attend all training and in‑services around safety, vehicle operations, and staffing.
• Serve as a mandated reporter within our transportation operations.
• Ensure the safety of youth on the bus in conjunction with the bus monitor(s) assigned to their vehicles.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School or equivalent.
• CDL B license with an "S" Endorsement (must remain in good standing and meet all training, physical, and federal requirements as a condition of employment); 7D license accepted if working towards CDL.
• First Aid, AED, CPR certified.
• A satisfactory driving record and ability to demonstrate defensive driving.

Note: Training on site for CDL and 7D Van Driver Certifications.
