Job description

Job Summary:

All drivers run daily routes with frequent stops and are required to load packages onto hand trucks and unload product at each stop on the assigned route, following the sequence designated by the Transportation Department Manager. The candidate will operate successfully in a cross-dock model, picking up a loaded truck from a nightly delivery at the assigned loading dock and returning the empty truck back to the lot at the end of the route. May occasionally assist with loading trucks, palletizing products, and performing other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical support, customer relations, and personnel management for major programs and projects.
  • Run routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated times.
  • Unload products from trailers by hand or using a hand cart and place them in designated customer storage areas, often transporting products across ramps, stairs, or docks in all weather conditions.
  • Frequently lift, push, or move products weighing 1-75 pounds, up to 100 pounds; reach up to 72” to stack and unstack pallets; bend and twist repeatedly during loading and unloading activities.
  • Verify deliveries with customers and obtain signatures; contact management for invoice discrepancies; communicate errors or returns.
  • Report when customers do not receive their complete orders (shorts).
  • Handle customer complaints professionally.
  • Properly use company equipment, follow safety rules, and perform pre-trip inspections in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Experience
  • At least one year of route delivery experience or relevant driving background with a straight truck.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License – Class B (Class A preferred).
  • Ability to read and understand English.
Skills
  • Operate vehicle safely in various traffic and weather conditions.
  • Meet or exceed productivity and error rate goals.
  • Strong customer relations and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan and organize work independently.
  • Knowledge of product and inventory control techniques.
  • Maintain effective communication with other departments regarding routing, safety, and customer issues.
  • Good communication skills and basic arithmetic ability; experience handling money is a plus.
  • Customer loyalty building, adaptability, trust-building, follow-up, and effective communication skills.
OTHER INFORMATION
  • Frequent lifting of products up to 50 lbs., infrequent lifting to 80 lbs.
  • Climb on and off the truck's box as needed.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
