Job summary

Socket.dev in Taneytown, MD is seeking a CDL-A Railroad Equipment Operator to perform field operations, equipment movement, and track work. The role requires transporting equipment, operating heavy equipment when qualified, and supporting railroad recovery and construction activities.

The position offers full-time hours, with 60+ hours/week on average, 40 hours guaranteed, and overtime. A starting pay of $26.00/hour, with higher pay based on experience, and a full benefits package are provided.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A).
• Experience in construction, field labor, or another physically demanding role.
• Must be available 24/7, including weekends and holidays, for emergency service calls.
• Ability to complete required qualification, training, and safety programs.

Responsibilities

• Complete DOT-compliant pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment.
• Drive tractor-trailers to and from work locations and inspect transported loads.
• Verify permits and load requirements for oversized or overweight equipment.
• Participate in daily job planning and safety briefings.
• Load, unload, move, and stage equipment and materials.
• Assist with railroad re-railing, load adjustment/transfer, track maintenance, repairs, and new construction.
• Help assemble, inspect, and operate cranes and other jobsite equipment.
• Assist with rigging using chains, cables, and winches.
• Operate equipment such as cranes, backhoes, grapple trucks, dump trucks, excavators, and other heavy equipment when qualified.
• Use hydraulic tools, welding and cutting torches, electrical tools, and common hand tools.
• Monitor vehicles and equipment for safe and reliable operation.
• Perform and document minor equipment and vehicle service.
• Assist with equipment disassembly, loading, and transportation after completing assignments.
• Restock vehicles and equipment with parts, supplies, and components.
• Sort and dispose of scrap materials in designated areas.
• Keep vehicles, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and ready for use.
• Follow all required safety procedures and maintain quality standards.
• Assist other departments or work groups as needed.
