Job summary

Schneider National currently seeks CDL A tanker drivers to haul liquid chemical freight in tandem tankers. You’ll typically be home on weekends with 34–48 hours at home, handling 5–10 loads each week across the Chicago/Gary area and nearby routes.

Eligible drivers can earn pass-through mileage plus hourly pay while on duty, plus a sign‑on bonus and occasional performance incentives. Schneider provides strong benefits and training, including HazMat endorsement support.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL required.
• Tanker endorsement required at time of hire.
• HazMat endorsement required after hire; Schneider provides self-paced online training to help secure it.
• TWIC card preferred and startup process within 60 days of hire.

Pay and bonus potential

• Pay recently increased by up to $.07 per mile.
• Mileage pay, plus hourly pay while on duty, not driving.
• Weekly performance pay.
• Earn up to $0.03 more per mile by obtaining additional CDL certifications.
• $7,500 sign-on bonus paid over 12 monthly payments in your first year for experienced drivers.
• $5,000 sign-on bonus paid over 12 monthly payments in your first year for inexperienced drivers.
• Paid orientation.
• Paid time off after 6 months, plus 6 days of holiday pay per year.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Tanker endorsement required at time of hire.
• HazMat endorsement required after hire - Schneider's self-paced online certification training will help you secure it.
• TWIC card preferred - required to start process within 60 days of hire.
• Live within 50 miles of Chicago, IL, Gary, IN or Woodhaven, MI.
