Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking operators for medium duty equipment to support road and bridge maintenance across the state highway system. You will operate machinery including tandem dump trucks and large rollers, perform skilled manual labor, and assist with installations and debris removal.

Candidates must have six months of related work experience, hold a valid driver’s license, and obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A CDL within six months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium duty equipment such as tandem dump trucks and large rollers.
• Assist in road/bridge construction, repair, and preservation on state highway systems.
• Picks up litter, debris, and dead animals off state right-of-way.
• Assist in installation of driveways and placement of pipes with hand tools.
• Support emergency and inclement weather operations, possibly extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
