Job Description
Entry level driver training role responsible for learning to drive a tractor trailer or straight truck intrastate and/or interstate on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and/or overnight routes to deliver and unload food and food related products.

Position Purpose
This driver trainee will learn to operate a tractor trailer or straight truck delivering and unloading food and related products. All routes are completed safely in accordance with company policies and DOT regulations. The trainee communicates professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers, performing duties consistent with customer service practices and team collaboration.
Position Responsibilities
- Attends and successfully completes PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required. Training documentation is completed and maintained.
- Rides‑with and assists driver trainer in executing deliveries. Follow all instructions and directions from the driver trainer.
- Perform all required safety checks (pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer per DOT regulations. Report safety issues or required repairs.
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Report any and all safety hazards immediately.
- Inspect trailer for proper loading and securing of freight. Perform count checks of items and verify customer invoices. Complete accurate, legible freight paperwork. Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
- Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule.
- Unload products, transport items to customer storage areas, perform damage control checks, scan items, and contact supervisor for removing orders per company policy. Verify delivery with customer and obtain signatures. Collect money where required. Load customer returns onto trailer and secure the door.
- Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are securely locked at all times.
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns, complete necessary paperwork, and remove equipment, materials, and trash from trailers as required.
- Complete daily record of hours of service and enter log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
- Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clear and clean. Secure all equipment and complete paperwork at shift end.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
- 0–6 months commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL license
- Must be 21 years of age
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
- Pass post‑offer drug test
- Pass road test
- Attains or has valid current DOT health card
- Able to hand‑lift and utilize a two‑wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight ranging from approximately 60 to 90 pounds, depending on location
