Job summary

Performance Food Group is seeking a CDL-A Driver to deliver food and related products to customers, following DOT regulations and ensuring on-time, safe delivery. You will be the face of the company, building lasting relationships with customers.

The role requires 6 months to 1 year of commercial driving experience, and includes day-one health benefits, safety bonuses up to $3,400 annually, and opportunities for growth within the foodservice distribution network.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
• 6–12 months commercial driving experience.
• Foodservice distribution industry experience.
• Onboard computer and electronic log system experience (PeopleNet).
• Hand-held delivery scanning system experience (POD).
• Customer service-related work experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform safety checks (pre/post trip) and inspections per DOT regulations.
• Follow DOT regulations and company safety policies; report hazards.
• Inspect trailer loading; verify items and complete required paperwork accurately.
• Ensure tractor/trailer/freight are secured; unload damaged goods and returns; complete end-of-shift paperwork.
• Adhere to daily logs and hours-of-service requirements; maintain records.
• Uphold safety standards for the handling of freight throughout delivery.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Purpose

Food and food service delivery Drivers fulfill a critical role in the country's food supply chain. Our delivery driversnot only make sure the customers' products arrive at their destination at the arranged times and in goodcondition, but they are the face of our company – building lasting relationships with our customers!

The CDL-A Driver is responsible for driving a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight and drive and drop routes for the purpose of delivering and/or unloading food and food related products to customers in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.

JOB FUNCTIONS Major Functional Responsibilities

• Perform all required safety check (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; inspect tractor/truck and trailer to insure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed. Report all safety issues and/or repairs required.
• Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately report any and all safety hazards.
• Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight. Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded. Check and complete in an accurate and in legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight. Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
• Ensure that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times. Unload damaged goods and customer returns and bring to the driver check-in and complete necessary paperwork and procedures at end of shift. Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required.
• Complies with daily record-keeping and hours of service requirements, adhering to DOT, state, and company policies.
• Upholds overall safety standards and follows guidelines for the proper handling of freight throughout the delivery process
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Education:

• High School Diploma/GED or
• Equivalent Experience Required

Work Experience:

• 6 Months - 1 Year Commercial driving experience
• Foodservice distribution industry experience

• Hand-held point of delivery scanning system experience (i.e., POD)
