Job Summary and Qualifications

The Clinical Documentation Improvement Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the CDI function. The Manager provides support to CDI leadership in coordinating all CDI operational processes and works to achieve and maintain overall CDI departmental goals.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assure compliance with Official Coding Guidelines, Regulatory Compliance Guidelines and CDI policies
  • Manage day-to-day CDI operations
  • Plan, direct, organize and manage the CDI team to meet key performance indicators
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the CDI Team
  • Coordinate meetings and education for the CDI Team
  • Represent the CDI Team at meetings and committees
  • Coach, facilitate, problem solve in the work of the team
  • Assist in hiring, onboarding, orientation and training of new team members
  • Complete ongoing and annual performance evaluations of CDI Team members
  • Develop, implement and monitor Performance Improvement Plans
  • Routinely reports to the Director on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, and individual team improvements needs
  • Assist Director in the review and improvement of processes and services
  • Provide back up for the Director
  • Prepare and reports CDI program metrics to senior management
  • Prepare and present monthly staff meeting agenda and presentation
  • Approve PTO requests, assuring adequate staff coverage utilizing FT, PT, PRN resources
  • Prepare and distribute monthly work schedule
  • Monitor and approve Kronos timekeeping
  • Monitor completion of mandatory education

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5+ years of experience in inpatient CDI required or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

Licenses, Certifications, & Training:

  • AHIMA Certified Coder, or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Nurse, or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS), or Cert Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP)
