Job summary

Homeward Bound in Dallas, TX seeks a compassionate staff member to provide emotional support, assist in the recovery journey, and help develop clients' therapeutic leisure and social skills.

You will notify nursing staff in crises, support admissions, and maintain client confidentiality while collaborating with counselors and other staff to promote a safe, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• If in recovery, must have at least one year sobriety.

Responsibilities

• Provide emotional support to clients and help develop recovery skills.
• Notify nursing staff or counselors in the event of a crisis.
• Assist with admission and client orientation to the unit.
• Interact with clients and help prevent AMA departures.
• Duplicate and collate materials for staff and clients.
• Report significant interactions on the Incident Report Form.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• To maintain client contact, provide emotional support in times of stress, help enhance the client's therapeutic leisure and social skills, and through skills which may include self-disclosure, (e.g., "here is what happened to me and what I did about it"), help to motivate the client to a life of recovery and abstinence from drug and alcohol addiction.
• Notify Nursing Staff and/or Counselor in the event of a crisis.
• Participate in the Admission process as directed and orient the client to the unit.
• Interact with clients and participate in the process of blocking AMA departures.
• Duplicate and collate materials to be used by staff and clients in treatment.
• Inform the counselor of significant interactions with client and/or family members on an Incident Report Form or other communication system as directed.
• Any other task assigned by supervisor.
