Unit Highlights:

  • The Cardiothoracic PCU provides compassionate and exceptional care to patients receiving advanced minimally invasive cardiothoracic procedures and plastic reconstructive surgeries, following ERAS protocols for optimal outcomes.
  • Utilizes bedside-led focus groups for process improvements and staff or patient-focused projects, offering opportunities for growth and challenge on WT8.
  • We are a work family! On WT8, nursing is a team sport. We foster positivity and healing through support, celebrate successes, and recognize achievements. Patient care involves RN & PCT/Nurse Technicians with ratios of 3:1 for flaps x12 hrs, and 4-5:1 based on acuity, with 8-12 patients per PCT/NT based on acuity.
  • Growth & Development: Focused on clinical learning and peer support, participation in peer-led education and the clinical ladder, the Professional Excellence Program, and study groups for certification (e.g., PCCN).
  • Collaboration Leads to Excellence: Recognition as the 2023 AdventHealth Orlando Department of Excellence, with routine thoracic and plastic surgery education, working seamlessly to deliver excellent care.
  • Surgeries You May See: Thoracotomy, Ivor Lewis, DIEP flaps, Free flaps, Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgeries, Intraoral flap, Mandibular reconstruction.

  • Major tertiary facility serving Southeast, Caribbean, and South America
  • Located on a lush tropical campus, at AdventHealth Orlando, a 1,368-bed hospital
  • Houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and cardiac cath labs in the country
  • Serves over 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients annually

The role you’ll contribute:

The RN provides direct and indirect nursing care to specific age groups, utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) to meet department goals. Adheres to compliance and all regulations, and participates in delivering outstanding customer service with respect and professionalism.

  • Completes assessments based on Practice Guidelines, including physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, spiritual, and lifestyle factors, with attention to signs of abuse or neglect.
  • Sets measurable goals based on assessments, develops and implements individualized care plans, and evaluates patient progress, ensuring whole-person care.
  • Interprets diagnostic data accurately, applying knowledge to all diagnoses, procedures, medications, and equipment related to the patient population.
  • Follows strict infection prevention, medication safety, and patient teaching protocols, seizing opportunities for education and safety.
  • Promotes excellent patient experiences through compassionate communication, effective handoffs, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.

*Terms: 24-month employment contract required for sign-on and relocation

  • Relevant experience required.
  • Internal candidates and rehires within 12 months are not eligible.
  • Must reside 50 miles outside of the hospital campus.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

  • Graduate of a school of nursing
  • Current valid State of Florida or multistate RN license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Advanced Life Support Certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP) as per unit requirements
