Job Responsibilities

Perform and analyze clinical laboratory tests across all laboratory disciplines following standard operating policies and procedures. Understand method principles, perform quality control, conduct preventative maintenance, and review results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.

Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure
  • For West Virginia Labs:
  • WV Licensure as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) within 90 days of hire if performing final result reporting of moderate/high complexity testing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Science or a related physical, chemical, or biological science degree with one year of clinical lab training/experience.
  • Alternatively, under CLIA for new hires who performed testing before April 24, 1995, until September 1, 1997:
    • High school diploma or equivalent, with documentation of appropriate training for testing performed before analyzing patient specimens, demonstrating skills in specimen collection, implementing lab procedures, performing tests, instrument use, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, reagent management, and quality control.
  • For Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Maryland Labs:
  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Science or a related physical, chemical, or biological science degree.
  • Or, under CLIA for testing performed before April 24, 1995, until September 1, 1997: high school diploma or equivalent plus documented training covering specimen handling, lab procedures, testing, instrument use, maintenance, troubleshooting, reagent management, and quality control.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP or AMT.
  • Experience as a Medical Technologist.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

These include processing and analyzing samples, maintaining laboratory instruments, performing quality control, phlebotomy, reporting findings, collaborating with healthcare professionals, recognizing testing issues, maintaining records, and ensuring safety and compliance.

Physical Requirements

Work involves strength, stamina, lifting, bending, standing, walking, and possibly sitting for extended periods. Accommodations may be provided for disabilities.

Work Environment

Potential exposure to odors and agents that may cause disease. Safety protocols must be followed.
