DEPARTMENT: Calvary Christian Academy

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

STATUS: Non-Exempt; Hourly, 12-Month

HOURS: Full Time (40)

Purpose Statement

The Bus Operator is responsible for transporting students between designated locations and the CCA campuses or to special destinations safely and promptly. Responsibilities include safe transportation, daily safety inspections, student attendance, and vehicle care.

Scope

This role is crucial for the safety of students and staff. The Bus Operator must adhere to safety practices, read and interpret maps and route descriptions, and follow directions accurately.

General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate a school bus over designated routes following laws and regulations related to pupil transportation.
  • Transport students to and from school and extracurricular activities.
  • Provide updates to the dispatcher and report emergencies or incidents affecting safety or schedule.
  • Maintain the bus in safe operating condition through daily inspections.
  • Keep the bus clean and report mechanical issues.
  • Attend training sessions as required and master first aid principles.
  • Ensure student safety and discipline on the bus, including enforcing rules and managing behavior.
  • Report behavioral issues and communicate with school personnel as needed.
  • Familiarize with emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Communicate with the school via cell during routes.
  • Complete daily paperwork accurately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Refrain from using electronic devices while transporting students.
  • Attend meetings such as faculty/staff meetings and other gatherings as necessary.
Qualifications, Skills, and Gifts
  • Strong personal commitment to Jesus Christ and living above reproach.
  • Operate the bus in a manner that glorifies the Lord and represents Calvary and CCA positively.
  • Loves the Lord and people, and aligns with our Leadership Covenant.
  • Fluent in English with excellent communication skills.
  • At least 25 years old with five years of successful licensed driving experience.
  • Clean driving record (no more than 5 points in 3 years) and certified school bus driver.
  • Maintain valid driver's license with current endorsements.
  • Physically capable of lifting 40 pounds and demonstrating mental and physical fitness for the role.
  • Extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with good time management.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum six months of school bus driving experience or vocational training preferred.
  • Must pass DOT drug screening, background check, physical exam, and maintain a clean driving record.
