Job summary

The GEO Group, Inc. is seeking a dedicated professional to deliver cognitive behavioral curriculum and group counseling in a correctional setting in California.

You will facilitate T4C and related curricula to support successful community reintegration. Ideal candidates will have a BA/BS in Social Work and 4+ years of CBT experience with criminal justice populations, plus strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Social Work or closely related field is required.
  • Minimum four years experience providing CBT to criminal justice population preferred.
  • Relevant teaching or counseling experience in a correctional setting preferred.
  • Ability to work in a correctional and custodial environment.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and communicate effectively in writing and speech.
  • Must be able to use computer software commonly used by the department.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate delivery of cognitive behavioral curriculum in group settings focusing on motivation for change and social skills.
  • Review curriculum/resources regularly to enhance participant participation.
  • Maintain class rosters, attendance records and provide completion certificates for curricula.
  • Assist in assessing participant needs and make referrals to staff.
  • Aid participants in planning post-release plans and encourage responsible behavior.
  • Orient participants regarding behavioral treatment programs including T4C.
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate group counseling from a structured manual.
  • Coordinate participant program schedules to meet criminogenic needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

This position provides participants with the tools and knowledge to prepare for successful community reentry through the delivery of cognitive behavioral curriculum such as Thinking For-A-Change (T4C) and other selected curriculum. The role also involves providing group facilitation in areas including cognitive self-change, social skills, problem solving, relationships, and other related issues.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Facilitate delivery of cognitive behavioral curriculum in a group setting focusing on motivation for change, social adjustment, personal management, social skills development, cognitive restructuring, and development of problem-solving skills.
  • Conduct a periodic review of curriculum and resources available to enhance participants’ participation in post-release programs and activities.
  • Maintain class rosters, attendance records, and provide completion certificates for T4C and other curriculum as required.
  • Support the assessment of participant needs and make referrals to appropriate staff.
  • Aid participants in planning and developing post-release plans and encourage them to assume responsibility for post-release behaviors and activities.
  • Participate in orientation of participants regarding all behavioral treatment programs including, but not limited to, T4C.
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate group counseling from a structured manual.
  • Assist in the coordination of participant program schedules to ensure the criminogenic needs of participants are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in Social Work or a closely related field is required.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience providing CBT experience to the criminal justice population is preferred.
  • Relevant teaching or counseling experience in a correctional setting is preferred.
  • Must be able to work in a correctional and custodial environment.
  • Must possess the ability to work with a team of professionals and implement team strategy approaches to work assignments.
  • Must be flexible, cooperative, and empathetic to the needs of staff and participants.
  • Ability to prepare written reports; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and to learn rules, regulations, and security procedures required by the facility.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
