Job summary

Cleaver-Brooks Sales & Service, Inc. (CBSS) in Dallas, TX, seeks an Operations Director of Shared Services to lead the Tube Shop, Weld/Fab Shop, Shipping & Receiving, Traffic, Tool Crib, and Maintenance.

You will align budgets, schedules and resources, monitor KPIs, and drive growth strategies and improvement plans with the VP of Shared Services. The role requires high-level leadership, strong communication, and the ability to balance safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business or a technical discipline is preferred; five years’ experience in a similar industrial/technical business management position may be substituted; military training a plus.

Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operations and coordination of shop and plant operational activities for the Shared Services division in Dallas, including Tube Shop, Weld/Fab Shop, Shipping & Receiving, Traffic, Tool Crib, and Maintenance departments.
• Manage activities, budgets, schedules, manpower, resources, KPI reporting, growth strategies, and improvement plans.
• Ensure delivery of quality products and shop services safely, on time, on budget, and to specification.
• Identify and resolve manpower or resource shortfalls; coordinate internal and external technical resources for cost-effective solutions.
• Monitor shop work for margin and scheduled deliverables; continuously seek margin and efficiency improvements.
• Provide guidance to direct reports in planning upcoming jobs and staffing needs; determine training requirements and execution plans.

Description

Location: Dallas, TX (full relocation provided, if needed)

Direct the daily operations and coordination of shop and plant operational activities for the Shared Services division based in Dallas, Texas. Manage the activities, budgets, schedules, manpower, resources, KPI reporting, growth strategies, and improvement plans for our industrial shop services, including the Tube Shop, Weld/Fab Shop, Shipping & Receiving, Traffic, Tool Crib, and Maintenance departments, along with their managers and respective teams.

Essential Functions

• This is a high-level management and leadership position. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• Must be able to multi-task and respond swiftly to production and plant urgencies. Availability outside normal business hours may be required, including nights and weekends.
• The core responsibility is the delivery of quality products and shop services safely, on time, on budget, and to specification.
• Identify and resolve ever-changing manpower or resource shortfalls.
• Coordinate internal and external technical resources to ensure appropriate cost-effective solutions.
• Monitor shop work routinely for proper margin and scheduled deliverables.
• Constantly seek ways to improve margin and efficiency on jobs and projects.
• Provide guidance to direct reports in proper planning of upcoming jobs.
• Review current and future manpower requirements to develop staffing recommendations for the Shared Services VP.
• Determine upcoming employee training needs and execution plans. This includes identification of site-specific training, safety, and insurance requirements.
• Define and implement supervisor training for business development and managerial expectations.
• Determine internal candidates for leadership and succession planning.
• Perform annual evaluations of all direct reports.
• Very little recurring travel requirements, with a few trips annually to possible leadership and corporate training events.
• Valid Driver's License
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President of Shared Services.

Education and Preferred Experience:

• A Bachelor’s degree in business or a Technical Discipline is preferred; five years’ experience in a similar industrial/technical business management position may be substituted; military training a plus.
• Medium-to-high level computer competency including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with some Salesforce and possibly IFS ERP experience.
• Basic understanding of boiler industry terminology.
• Good understanding of metal fabrication processes, ASME, CAD drawings, and code welding procedures.
• Strong skills in written and verbal communication
• Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals with minimum supervision.
• Demonstrated solid teamwork, communication, and planning skills required.

Travel:less than 10% travel

Working Conditions and Hazards:

Work requires regular speed and accuracy operating office equipment. Work requires a considerable variety of steady active physical movements. Typical office conditions. Plant, shop, or field exposure will occur and may offer slightly disagreeable features. Customer plant visits would be rare but may include exposure to site-specific hazards and safety requirements.
