The CBI Therapist works to assist individuals with mental illness to reach a higher level of independence. The therapist works directly with children, adolescents, or family groups to provide individualized treatment in dealing with issues associated with mental and emotional health. He/she is responsible for facilitating the client’s transition to independence, endorsing and applying community resources, and providing information and referral services, including mental health resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing clinical services as outlined by the policies and procedures of Hillcrest Children and Family Center.
  • Completes assessments, intake evaluations, outpatient assessments, person-centered treatment plans, family/individual therapy; and assists in program development and implementation.
  • Provides the professional expertise necessary to make determinations regarding patient eligibility.
  • Provides evidence-based psychotherapy for clients presenting with various concerns.
  • Makes recommendations related to care needs regarding clients’ health and safety.
  • Develops safety plans with input from youth, family, and all stakeholders.
  • Educates the family about CBI services and the role of CBI clinicians and team.
  • Participates in CBI required training curriculum.
  • Remains flexible to schedule sessions around youth and family’s availability.
  • Facilitates discharge team meetings including all stakeholders.
  • Participates in individual and group supervision as scheduled.

Educational Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related discipline is required.
  • Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW), Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Psychologist (PSY) in District of Columbia.
