Description
The Avionics Technician installs, inspects, tests, adjusts, or repairs avionics equipment, such as radar, communications, navigation, and missile control systems in assigned aircraft. Performs tasks independently with little or no supervision.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs operational checks, bench checks, troubleshoots, and isolates malfunctions in complex aircraft avionics equipment.
- Uses complex test equipment to perform operational checks.
- Repairs or replaces components based on test results following technical documents.
- Performs calibration, repair, and replacement of system components based on test results.
- Practices good housekeeping, tool control, and safety at all times.
- Annotates maintenance actions in aircraft records and is knowledgeable in CAMS documentation.
- Complies with all current sections of COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series applicable to aircraft maintenance.
- Possesses working knowledge of technical publications and aircraft maintenance applications.
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of advanced electronic principles and circuit analysis.
- Ability to trace signal flow and interpret waveforms and voltages.
- Working knowledge of aircraft communications/navigation and instrument systems.
- Ability to interpret schematic diagrams and engineering drawings.
- Excellent soldering and wiring skills.
- Working knowledge of standard test equipment and maintenance procedures.
- Possess a valid US State driver's license.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Ability to obtain a government flight line driver’s license and a secret security clearance.
Experience & Education:
- High School degree or equivalent required.
- Completion of specialized courses in aircraft avionics for helicopters.
- Two (2) to Four (4) years recent experience in the repair of aircraft avionics or instrument systems of helicopters. Four (4) years preferred in UH-1Y/Z OR H-60 R/S OR CH-53E.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment:
- May work in aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
- May be required to respond to various operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions.
- May be exposed to extreme noise and fumes.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform various physical tasks.
