Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
- Performs modifications, removal, replacement, and reinstallation actions; part fabrication; layouts, templates, etc., ensuring structural integrity, quality, and completeness of work.
- Adjusts, sets up, troubleshoots, repairs, and demonstrates correct usage of shop metalworking equipment, hand tools, powered tools, fastener installation tooling, and fixtures used for aircraft structural maintenance.
- Develops, designs, recommends, and determines structural repair and replacement procedures, including fastener and material type selection, damaged area cutouts, etc.
- Develops, designs, inspects, and determines metal, plastic, phenolic, and fiberglass part fabrication procedures and template requirements, including layout, fastener and material type, quality, and completeness of work.
- Assists in P&E report preparation.
- Sets up and uses sight levels and transits; performs aircraft optical alignment checks as required.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as needed.
- Maintains and completes required records and maintenance forms.
- Uses schematics, drawings, charts, and other publications to troubleshoot, repair, test, and modify systems.
- Performs aircraft inventory, acceptance, and transfer inspections.
- CDI Certified, as required.
- Performs engine, flight control, and landing gear rigging.
- May perform off-site service on detachments.
- Prepares aircraft for turn-up as required.
- May perform collateral duty inspection assignments.
- Troubleshoots, services, and repairs aircraft engines, airframes, and systems to ensure airworthiness.
- Replaces and rebuilds major aircraft structures such as wings, fuselage, empennage, and landing gear systems.
- Performs surface controls, engine, and landing gear rigging.
- Determines feasibility and methods for repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components using manuals and bulletins.
- Removes and replaces aircraft engines with appropriate support equipment.
- Performs miscellaneous duties like cleaning, lubing aircraft systems and components.
- Maintains cleanliness of the work area.
- Adheres to FOD prevention and Tool Control Program rules.
- Documents work on Maintenance Action Form (MAF) or NALCOMIS System.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Willing to work rotating shifts and travel 10% of the time.
Qualifications Standards:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum three (3) years experience as an I Level Airframe Structural Mechanic or satisfactory completion of T45 OJT Program.
- Familiar with aircraft systems, tools, drawings, schematics, and safety requirements.
- Experience in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.
- Preferred but not required: completion of U.S. Navy aircraft structural repair AMS "A" or "B" school or equivalent courses; FAA Airframe license.
- Must obtain and maintain CAC and required government clearance.
- Valid state driver’s license required.
Physical Demands:
Work typically in hangar/shop/flight line environments requiring climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, walking, and working in tiring positions. May lift objects up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustments.
Work Environment:
Conditions vary from minimal discomfort to exposure to weather, noise, electrical hazards, fumes, airborne particles, and moving mechanical parts.
