Job summary

Malibu Boats, Inc. is seeking a Mold Maintenance Technician in the Mold Preparation department to maintain and repair tooling, process new tooling, and keep deck, hull, and tooling in good condition per schedule.

You will use air tools, paint gun, handle gelcoat, read drawings, document finished parts, and work in a fast-paced, noisy environment with PPE; typical 10-hour days with overtime.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience or training; or equivalent combination.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, maintenance instructions, and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair tooling; process new tooling per procedures and schedules.
  • Read drawings and specifications to ensure correct tooling work.
  • Document finished parts for production and quality.
  • Operate air-powered and hand tools for stripping, buffing, grinding, sanding, and finishing.
  • Wear required PPE and maintain safe work environment.
  • Support other duties as assigned.

Job description

Job Title: Mold Maintenance Technician

Department: Mold Preparation

Reports To: Department Supervisor

FLSA Status: Hourly

Summary: Maintenance and repair of tooling. Processing of new tooling in accordance with established procedures and schedules. Maintains the condition of deck, hull, and tooling via minor repair or major refurbish according to the scheduled rotation.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Ability to use various air powered and hand tools to strip, buff, grind, sand and finish gelcoat and fiberglass tooling.
  • Ability to use a paint gun to apply tooling gelcoat
  • Ability to use chemical strippers, cleaners, sealers and release agents.
  • Must be able to identify and classify, by feel and sight, defects in mold surfaces. Defects include scratches, pits, dents, swirl marks etc.
  • Apply high energy, self-motivation and initiative to learn and be trained on various types of equipment and processes.
  • Ability to use high-speed pneumatic power tools safely and effectively such as buffers, sanders, grinders etc.
  • Must be able to read drawings and specifications.
  • Complete required documentation of finished parts for production purposes
  • Daily job duties will be varied and dynamic.
  • Workload will be tracked via daily schedules and assignments requiring responsibility and accountability for quality and timeliness of completion.
  • Ability to perform job functions safely and effectively in a fast-paced, noisy environment while wearing all required PPE (including eye, hearing, etc.).
  • Practice good housekeeping.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands Regularly required to work at, lifting parts and pieces up to 50 lbs., traveling up and down stairs on a constant basis, sitting, squatting, and bending in various awkward positions for certain lengths of time - including working overhead, traveling in and out of work areas, walking and being on your feet for most of the workday. Physical exertion is required.
