Job summary

Friona Industries is seeking a Cattle Manager to direct daily feedyard operations under the Feedyard Manager's guidance. You will supervise crews, coordinate cattle handling, document movements, and maintain herd health programs in all weather conditions.

The role requires strong leadership, experience in cattle care, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a farm setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain communication with Feedyard manager regarding cattle handling and care
• Coordinate and direct supervision of all cattle handling crews
• Manage and motivate subordinate crew supervisors
• Perform discretionary decisions in the Feedyard Managers absence
• Distinguish and identify cattle as to quality, health, or at risk
• Sort and order cattle per manager's specifications and requirements
• Receiving or rejection of cattle
• Perform proper documentation of all cattle received
• Schedule and place all Feedyard staff and coordinate their activities
• Maintain proper health care supplies
• Establish proper cattle care crews
• Perform maintenance of all cattle care facilities
• Manage cattle sorting and classification
• Maintain accurate inventory of cattle in home pens, hospital pens
• Manage maintenance of medicine inventories
• Facilitate movements of cattle across the feedyard
• Run or approve any clearance reports on all pens to be shipped
• Structure and maintain an efficient Feedyard schedule
• Manager and support a continual observance and enforcement of safety policies and procedures

Job Summary

The cattle manager will work closely with the Feedyard Manager to prioritize and delegate Feedyard work requirements. The Cattle Manager, under the guidance of the Feedyard Manager, will direct, supervise and coordinate daily activities at eh Feedyard including employee supervision, posting research data, maintaining herd health programs and coordinating daily work and research activities of part-time employees.

Education Requirements

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Class D license (or must be able to obtain within 60 days)
• Detailed oriented to provide accurate and consistent work
• Excellent customer service skills
• Work independently and as a team member

IT/Technical Knowledge

• General computer knowledge

Special Conditions/Requirements

• Operating computerized machinery
• Livestock accidents, moving machinery, contaminated medical equipment, vehicular ad livestock traffic

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

• Heavy lifting, waling, long-term standing, climbing equipment
• Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions
• Must be able to life 50+ pounds regularly
